Project Engineer
We’re looking for an experienced Project Engineer to lead technical delivery on challenging infrastructure projects in a remote and rewarding environment.
This role offers a unique opportunity to combine hands-on engineering, leadership, and problem-solving across diverse worksites approximately two hours north of Gisborne.
This position runs through to the end of 2026, offering long-term, meaningful project involvement.
Location: Remote sites, approx. 2 hours north of Gisborne
Start date: Late January
Pay rate: Competitive salary: $120,000 – $160,000, depending on experience

Key responsibilities include:
- Lead day-to-day technical delivery, site supervision, and quality assurance of works
- Provide expert input on construction methodologies, sequencing, and temporary works
- Develop and manage project plans, CQPs/ITPs, EMPs, and HSPs
- Conduct accurate setting out, surveying, and measurement
- Oversee document management including drawings and as-builts
- Assist with procurement, subcontractor coordination, and contract admin
- Maintain schedules and programmes; identify risks and delays early
- Deliver projects to spec and budget while driving continuous improvement
- Understand cost build-up, manage budgets, forecast cash flow, and support claims
- Monitor productivity and implement corrective action where needed
- Ensure variation management and NZS3910 compliance
- Mentor site staff and junior engineers
- Foster a culture of performance, growth, and feedback
- Model company values in day-to-day leadership
- Champion HSEQ best practice
- Lead hold point planning and ensure ITP compliance
- Support training and induction to meet legal and procedural obligations
- Build trusted relationships with clients and consultants
- Represent the business with professionalism and commercial awareness
- Resolve client concerns swiftly and effectively
- Comply with HSE policies and safe operating practices
- Actively pursue self-development to grow capability and contribution
- 3–5 years’ experience in civil infrastructure delivery
- NZCE or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of NZS 3910 and project delivery under contract
- Strong report writing, data analysis, and planning skills
- Proven ability to work both independently and within a team
- Technical expertise in civil construction and engineering principles
- Leadership skills to coach and influence on-site teams
- Strong planning, risk management, and time control abilities
- Commercial savvy, particularly in cost control and contract admin
- Clear and proactive communication with stakeholders
- Practical problem-solving with a forward-thinking mindset
- Digital literacy in construction software and QA/QC tools
