About the Role Tradestaff Rotorua is seeking experienced Marine Welders to join a leading team working on boat fabrication and repair. This role is ideal for skilled welders who take pride in precision, craftsmanship, and quality. You’ll be involved in all aspects of metal preparation, cutting, and assembly—helping to build and maintain high-quality marine vessels.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare materials for fabrication including layout, sawing, punching, coping, and drilling.
- Assemble and weld metal components using FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW techniques.
- Perform cutting, burning, sanding, cleaning, grinding, and polishing of components.
- Build jigs and tooling required for fabrication tasks.
- Work with steel, aluminium, and stainless steel to precise tolerances.
- Operate fabrication equipment including grinders, drills, TIG/MIG welders, plasma cutters, and band saws.
- Measure, mark, and set up materials and machinery (cold saw, drill press, brakes, calipers, etc.).
- Check design specs before cutting and perform quality checks after completion.
- Maintain tools and a clean, safe workspace in line with OSHA and safety regulations.
- 24+ months of marine welding and fabrication experience
- AWS certification or advanced marine repair coursework highly advantageous..
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, physical condition, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail are essential.
