Maintenance Engineer

Maintenance Fitter – On Site (Meat Processing Plant)
Tradestaff is looking for an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join a well-established meat processing plant in Ashburton. This is an immediate-start role supporting critical site operations, with strong potential for longer-term work for the right person.

Location: Ashburton
Pay rate: $32–$40 per hour (experience dependent)
Duration: Immediate start, 6–12 weeks initially, with potential to go long term
Shifts: Open to rotating afternoon and morning shift

What you’ll be doing:

• Carrying out ongoing maintenance to keep plant and machinery operating
• Responding quickly to breakdowns and production issues
• Working with chains, hooks, and general mechanical systems
• Performing welding tasks as required (MIG, ARC, TIG – not all essential)
• Supporting proactive maintenance to reduce downtime

What we’re looking for:

• Minimum 2+ years’ experience as a Maintenance Fitter or similar role
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to think on your feet
• Proactive mindset with good problem-solving skills
• Experience in food processing or meat works highly desirable
• Welding experience an advantage
• Electrical ticket a bonus, but not required
• Full Class 1 driver licence (for short site-related runs)
• Reliable, safety-focused, and responsive to breakdowns
