Engineering Trades Assistant – This opportunity does not come along often
STAINLESS STEEL
We’re on the lookout for a switched-on person who knows their way around a workshop. This isn’t a small setup – it’s a large-scale operation with a strong reputation for quality workmanship, technical skill, and complex engineering projects.
This is a rare opportunity to get your foot in the door with one of Waikato’s leading fabrication specialists. Our client’s work spans industrial mechanical engineering, plant design and fabrication, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, and much more. No two days are the same here – and they’re after someone who can keep up.
They’re looking for
all-rounders with strong work ethics. People who see the big picture and understand the value of delayed gratification – because the builds here can be long, and attention to detail is everything. Patience matters.
What might a day look like?- Polishing thousands of stainless parts
- Supporting site engineers with installs
- Working hands-on in the fabrication workshop
- Running deliveries or picking up high-value components from suppliers
Who we’re after: You’ve probably spent time in a workshop before. You’re mechanically minded, detail-focused, and take pride in doing things properly. You might have tried your hand at welding stainless – and you know a decent weld from a dodgy one (if yours doesn’t look like a cauliflower, you’re on the right track).
This is an
entry-level position, and full training will be provided. But we’re only considering people with the right mindset – someone aiming to become an outstanding tradesperson over time.
You’ll need to have:- A full NZ driver’s licence
- Your own reliable vehicle
- Manual driving experience, including reversing a trailer
- A genuine morning-person attitude (starts are usually 6am, sometimes earlier)
- The flexibility to travel – there may be stay-away work, including in the South Island
- No criminal convictions
- The ability to lift 25kgs regularly and maintain good physical fitness
- Flexibility to work long hours and varied shifts
- The ability to pass a drug test
- The right to work in NZ with no restrictions
What’s in it for you:- Starting pay of $26–$28 per hour
- Quick pay progression for the right person
- Travel and stay-away allowances when applicable
- A supportive team culture focused on developing future tradespeople
This is a
temporary assignment through
Tradestaff, expected to run for approximately 2 months, depending on the needs of the client. At the end of the assignment, the client will reassess upcoming builds and projects to determine if further work is available.
That said, this is a genuine opportunity to get a highly regarded Waikato-based company on your CV. It’s the kind of role that can open doors — a chance to get real exposure to the industry, refine your skills, and learn from some of the best in the business.
If you’re an engineering-minded person, you’ll know exactly what a place like this can offer. It’s what you make of it.
We are receiving a high volume of applications for this role. To give yourself the best shot at being considered,
please apply online with a full CV. You must supply at least
one recent work reference, though
two is preferred. We aim to respond to every application within
2 working days of receiving it.
This position will go quick.
