Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with civil construction works including roading, drainage, and earthworks
- Spotting for machinery and operators
- Shovelling, trenching, and backfilling
- Laying pipes, ducts, and drainage systems
- Site clean-up and general labouring duties
- Following health & safety procedures at all times
- Working effectively as part of a team and taking direction from supervisors
Act as a spotter in trenches to ensure machinery operates safely and in accordance with safety protocols. - Support experienced teams in the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground drainage, sewerage, and stormwater systems.
- Ensure the team is supplied with tools and materials
- Prepare work sites by excavating trenches for the installation of pipes and related components.
- Ensure trenches are dug to the correct depth and dimensions as per project plans.
- Help install pipe fittings, junctions, and manholes as per technical drawings.
- Assist in laying, connecting, and testing drainage pipes (PVC, concrete, or other materials).
- Clear debris and maintain a safe, organized worksite to comply with safety standards.
- Ensure all materials are properly stored and tools are in good condition
- Physical, basic, labour tasks as required such as wheelbarrowing, digging, cleaning, planting, landscaping, weed-spraying, washing trucks
- Clean, tidy or prepare a job site, assist with removal of waste or hazardous materials
- Assist with set up or take down of scaffolds, ladders, marquees, etc.
- Assist tradespeople on site such as electricians, carpenters, plumbers and other specialised contractors
- Pick/pack or put away stock in a factory or warehouse, de-van containers
- Load, unload or deliver materials or goods
- Operate basic machinery
- Basic traffic control
- Assemble components or items in a production environment
- Use a variety of tools under appropriate supervision
- Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner
