Job Title: Engineering Trade Assistant

Hourly Rate: $30/hour
Job Overview:We are seeking a skilled and motivated Engineering Trade Assistant to support our team with ship repairs. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of hands-on experience in the field, with a solid background in marine engineering or similar industries. This role requires someone who is proactive, works well in a team, and has a strong safety focus.
As an Engineering Trade Assistant, you will be assisting with various repair and maintenance tasks on ships, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standard. You will be working alongside qualified engineers and tradespeople, providing support as needed for repairs, inspections, and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with general ship repair tasks, including mechanical maintenance, welding, and fabrication.
• Support engineers and tradespeople with disassembly, assembly, and troubleshooting of ship systems and components.
• Perform inspections and assessments of ship structures and equipment.
• Help prepare and maintain tools, equipment, and materials for daily tasks.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures, particularly in confined spaces and emergency scenarios.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with industry safety standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Ensure your own tools are in working order and meet required specifications.
• Adhere to quality control processes and standards to ensure high-quality workmanship.
• Complete all relevant documentation and reports as required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a trade assistant role, ideally within ship repairs, engineering, or a similar industry.
• New Zealand certifications:
  
  • Confined Spaces
  • Fire Warden
  • Fire Entry
• Valid Driver’s License (preferred but not required).
• Must own and bring your own tools for daily tasks.
• Clean criminal record (background check required).
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety and quality work.
• Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including confined spaces and varying weather conditions.
• Reliable and punctual with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
