Tradestaff are on the hunt for a Paint and Coatings Unit Leader for a 9 month fixed term assignment. This role is 100% off the tools and will be focused on planning and team organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Must have a clear criminal background to be considered for this role (pre-employment checks will be done prior to the contract commencing)
Must have 2 valid forms of ID (NZ drivers licence and Passport ideally)

Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and execute trade and workshop activities related to ship/shore maintenance, repair, overhaul, and installation.
- Manage and supervise both trade and non-trade staff.
- Ensure work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to quality standards and company policies.
- Select appropriate work methods while adhering to maintenance standards.
- Lead or assist other trade teams based on skill level and health & safety criteria.
- Develop estimates and make recommendations for modifications and maintenance activities.
- Manage new and emergent work following company procedures.
- Suggest improvements to workshop processes and maintenance routines.
- Use IT tools for documentation such as work orders, timesheets, emails, and calendars.
- Support other maintenance teams during peak periods.
- Plan and implement compliance and skills training to maintain staff competency.
- Ensure workshop equipment is installed safely and personnel are trained and competent.
- Maintain accurate maintenance test records and quality documentation.
- Drive continuous improvement to deliver value for customers.
- Address performance issues directly or escalate as needed.
- Assist with employee performance reviews and encourage personal development.
- Maintain training and competency matrices for staff.
- Communicate training and competency needs to line management.
- Use IFS system for timesheet input and material ordering.
- Train Team Leads on JSEA preparation and dangerous goods handling.
- Assist with basic QA and understanding customer specifications.
- Contribute to weekly operational planning to meet production targets.
- Support subcontractors with materials provision.
- Prepare permits and print job cards as needed.
- Notify management of required work variations.
- Assist staff on tasks as directed.
- Liaise with other production units to ensure project completion.
