An experienced mobile plant operator is required to drive tractors and a class 1 vehicle with trailers in steep/narrow/muddy access. A successful applicant would be required to conduct vegetation management/harvesting in the field using chainsaw and other arboricultural equipment. Other duties include loading raw product into processing plant and running/monitoring plant operations.

This role is a long-term role on an ongoing vegetation managment, harvesting and processing contract with no specific end-date.

Skills and experiences required
  • Arboricultural/forestry experience for at least 2 years
  • Relevant tickets or qualifications (eg. chainsaw tickets, first aid, etc.)
  • Strong work references
  • Good driving skills
  • Ability to drive tractor and relevant driving licence
  • Ability to correctly and safely use tractor implements
  • Ability to drive with and reverse a trailer using a manual gearbox vehicle
Some of the duties that could be required:
  • Loading and unloading materials, tools and equipment and transporting them around site
  • Mixing, pouring and spreading materials such as mulch, gravel and soil
  • Shovelling material onto conveyors, wheelbarrows and trucks for removal
  • Preparing and positioning mobile plant (such as woodchippers, etc.)
  • Operating tractor-drawn and self-propelled plant to harvest trees, and avoid damage to equipment/vegetation under cultivation
  • Adjusting speed, height and depth of implements
  • Operating plant to hold, lift and cut trees
  • Operating attachments to sort trees and logs, operation of plant such as chippers and log splitters
  • Recording log tallies, woodchip volumes and report writing
  • Minor servicing and repairs of equipment and plant
