Carpenter/Leading Hand
We’re on the lookout for qualified carpenters to join our team and work across a range of civil projects throughout the Hawkes Bay region.
The Leading Hand Carpenter role will be for a tradesperson responsible for coordinating on-site carpentry works, supervising apprentices and labourers, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to a high standard. The role bridges the gap between site management and the carpentry team, providing hands-on leadership while actively working on the tools.

Your role will involve
Your day-to-day could include:
- General carpentry and building work on commercial and residential sites
- Formwork, boxing/shuttering, and foundation preparation
- Installing plasterboard/drywall, flooring, and roofing
- Structural repairs and internal/external finishing
- Working at heights using scaffolds, ladders, or EWP
- Safe operation of carpentry tools and working around heavy machinery
- Following strong health & safety practices on every site
- Lead and supervise a team of carpenters, apprentices, and labourers on-site
- Allocate daily tasks and provide clear direction to the team
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, and schedules
- Ensure carpentry works are completed to quality standards and project timelines
- Coordinate with site supervisors, builders, and subcontractors
- A Site Safe card - EWP or Working at Heights ticket, Confined spaces tickets (preferred – Confined spaces tickets)
- Own reliable transport
- Proven experience in carpentry or a trade qualification
- A flexible, can-do attitude and willingness to work across varied locations
- Having own tools desired
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
- Sound knowledge of NZ Building Code, construction methods, and materials
- High standard of workmanship and attention to detail
- Competent in setting out and managing carpentry workflows
- Work across a variety of sites and projects
- Strong health & safety focus and great clients
