Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Technician (Trucks & Trailers)

We’re looking for a skilled Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Technician to join a busy South Auckland team.
This hands-on role involves servicing, maintaining, and repairing diesel trucks and trailers, ensuring they meet safety and compliance standards.

Start date: Immediate
Pay rate: $32–$35 per hour (weekly pay, depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults in diesel trucks and trailers
  • Perform servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy vehicles
  • Work on engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, and steering components
  • Inspect and repair trailer systems (air brakes, axles, lighting)
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify issues
  • Carry out preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns
  • Ensure vehicles meet safety and compliance standards
  • Complete job cards, reports, and maintenance records
  • Respond to breakdowns (workshop or roadside, depending on assignment)
Qualifications & Certifications:
  • Trade qualification in Heavy Automotive Engineering / Diesel Mechanics (NZ Certificate or equivalent)
  • Warrant of Fitness (WoF) / Certificate of Fitness (CoF) certification preferred or required
  • Valid driver’s licence (Class 2–5 advantageous)
  • Optional but valued: hydraulic systems, air brake certification, electrical diagnostics training
Skills & Experience:
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy vehicle systems
  • Experience with trucks (European, Japanese, or American brands) and trailers
  • Ability to read technical manuals and schematics
  • Competence with diagnostic software and tools
  • Problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift heavy components
  • Comfortable working in workshop and outdoor environments
  • Capable of standing, bending, and working in confined spaces
